Hello linuX-gamers,

as you may know linuX-gamers.net started as a gaming community page and developed into one of the main news resources about linuX games and gaming on a linuX operating system.

As playing under linuX has become sort of “mainstream” and the flow of real news on linuX-gamers.net is not really present I plan to revert this page back to a Multi-Gaming page and I would like to get your input.

My idea was to make the project as open as possible so when you already have a group of people that play under linuX you could just join linuX-gamers.net and unite with other groups under one hood.

A longterm goal is to organize linuX-LAN-Parties again and to be present on the important exhibitions.

Feel free to comment and discuss.

Sincerly

Homepage

Indie Royale has launched a new initiative in indie game development:
the Alpha Collection. This bundle is comprised of three games (two
with Linux support, the third is working on it) still in the
development process. Buyers will be able to purchase and play these
alpha versions and their contributions will go towards helping the
developers finish making the games.

Leading off the Alpha Bundle is SMP’s Towns, a city building and
management game mixed with an RPG that draws inspiration from titles
spanning Dungeon Keeper, Dwarf Fortress and Majesty. Instead of
playing the hero who delves deep into the dungeon, players oversee the
town that houses and caters the hero’s needs. Players can craft unique
weapons, obtain randomized loot and build a settlement capable of
holding back the forces that rise up from the active dungeon upon
which the town sits. Towns is available on PC, Mac, and Linux.

The second title being Alpha funded is developer Phr00t’s 3079 — an
alleged lovechild of Minecraft and Fallout, with a block-like world,
futuristic action, and role-playing elements played in a first-person
perspective. 3079′s randomly generated areas, buildings, items, quests
and characters make it an entertaining open-world experience, with
Alpha funding helping to power many new additions over the next few
months. PC, Mac, and Linux funders can dive into the single player and
online multiplayer action now.

Finally, the Alpha Collection’s sleeper title, Wyv and Keep: The
Temple of the Lost Idol, is a lusciously pixelated 2D co-op puzzle
platformer from A Jolly Corpse. Dubbed as a more fiendish version of
Blizzard’s classic The Lost Vikings, players can control Wyv and Keep
with one keyboard and two players can play locally or online.

Players use boxes and even their own bodies to traverse gaps, activate
switches, collect treasures, and reach exits in dozens of levels. A
Windows PC build is currently downloadable, and purchasers’
contributions will help fund the Mac and Linux versions of the game.
These are planned to become available for all Alpha Collection buyers
in the next 3 to 6 months.

More information on the Alpha Collection, including time left to buy,
is available at the official Indie Royale website

Benjamin Peter reports:

“Debian is calling for your help to bring a more user and game friendly image to debian and ubuntu by organizing a games screenshot party.

What is this?” You are asking?

Well, see the announcement on debian-devel-games:

“The main theme of the party will be Screenshots; making sure that all game packages which should reasonably have a screenshot, has one.

Of course, this is only a theme, and if you want to work on any other
aspect of the games packages, feel free to do so, and join the party!” ”

Seems to be a perfect spot for a linuX-gamer to help

Thanks Ben for this hint.

After S2Games gave a group of volunteers permission to maintain and update “Savage 2 – A Tortured Soul” on their own – that team now released their second and third hotfix.

Here is what you can find in versions 2.1.0.4 and 2.1.0.5:

Two new maps (MirChul by Dark_Strider and Akamrostu by Envor)

Long overdue bugfixes (Sentry bats of the beast horde can now reveal electric eyes)

New Tutorial System to ease the learning curve for beginners

Eyecandy (spawn effects for hellbourne units, persitant items now summon a colored groundsprite effect for as long as their effects last)

and NUMEROUS bugfixes.

You can find the complete changelog here.

As a second important step Savage 2 is now also being hosted at Desura.

Desura is a community driven digital distribution service for gamers – like you might know from Steam – but Desura already supports linuX and there are rumors that MAC might be included soon.

All this results in a slowly but steady increasing playerbase which will hopefully will help Savage 2 to get recognized by the masses.

Here is a short video what you can expect from Savage 2:
